We've been taught that "HELL" is an everlasting burning pit of fire that our lost loved ones, and evil people are in today. That they are being forever tormented for all eternity. We are taught that we have a separate being, a soul, a ghost, a spirit inside of us that leaves upon death and is immediately rewarded with heaven or punished in hell upon our earthly deaths.
NO WHERE in scriptures is this depicted.
Then where did this notion come from?
Spirituality (belief that a person is a spirit experiencing a human life, that a spirit can leave the body) began during the rise of the 5th century.
In 553AD May 5th to June 2nd the Catholic Church began the "Hell" doctrines under the Council of Constantinople taking on more greek mythology in their teachings. This meeting was convened and called by Emperor Justinian.
In 1308AD a fictional image was drawn by Dantes inferno. In this painting there were many levels of torture in what we have been taught as Hell.
